At the beginning of their training, the teams of participants gather in a 3-credit seminar during which they learn about each other and specify together what type of program they want, with precise themes, topics, resources and instructors. They identify their needs for professional growth and determine their apprenticeship topics and goals together. The adult educators’ training is team-based. Teams start their program when a minimum of 9 participants are ready to start together.
The professional training process includes seven Educative Projects that allow participants to reach their educational goals as defined in their needs analysis during the first course within the program.

After the initial course during which participants have defined their needs and created their own academic program—detailing what are the projects of their team in which areas, and what resources they will use within the list of videos available in the e-media library of the Deep University—they organize four (Capstone) or five (Master) 3-credit units for their Educative Projects, and define who would be the best facilitators, locally or at a distance, for the contents they intend to develop into their educative projects.

The curriculum ends with a recapitulation, 3-credit course during which participants sum up their experiences in the various projects and present to the Deep University management team what they learned and in what way, what it can bring to humanity at large and to their local community as well as their profession. They set the means for the dissemination of what they learned on the internet, with videos about their experiences that can be used by new teams of participants in their own programs. They define their role as future alumni for the sustainability of what they learned and new contributions to the Deep University concept. As Deep University is a collective of social and ecological action, this last meeting is crucial in establishing the link between the apprenticeship team and future endeavors that help spread the concept of new, deep academia.
At the end of their training, participants receive a Capstone Certificate or, if they complete research for a Master thesis, a Master degree that leads to doctoral studies and a Ph.D. They are encouraged to get involved in a future Educative Project either for their own refreshment and further education or as facilitators and instructors.
